Abebe Mekuria Shenkutie
Shenkutie Abebe Mekuria is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Health Technology and Informatics, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), Hong Kong. He holds a PhD in Medical Microbial Genomics (PolyU, 2021), an MSc in Medical Microbiology (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, 2012), and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree (Mekelle University, Ethiopia, 2008). His research focuses on antibiotic resistance mechanisms, microbial pathogenesis, and therapeutic target identification, applying advanced genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, coupled with in-depth bioinformatics skills to study biofilm-mediated resistance. Dr Shenkutie is a recipient of the prestigious RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2024/25 cohort) and the PolyU Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship (2023/2024 cohort). He was previously awarded the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (2017-2020) to support his doctoral studies. His research contributions include publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences on microbial genomics and infectious diseases. His expertise centres on medical microbiology, microbial genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, and molecular medicine, with a strong commitment to translational research and academic mentorship.
